PROGRESSIONS

In Week 9, Mr. Ridhwan introduced our final project and explained that the class would be divided into three groups to work on different story concepts.

Proposed Story Ideas

Story Idea 1 (by Qian Yue)
The story follows a girl who develops feelings for a boy and often imagines being in a relationship with him. The narrative alternates between reality—showing their actual interactions—and her fantasy world, where she envisions them being together.

Story Idea 2 (by Sher Wei)
Four girls are playing a game when one of them suddenly disappears. The remaining three must find a way to escape the room before they, too, vanish one by one.

Story Idea 3 (by Ying Xuan)
Four girls each discover a letter in different rooms or halls, all directing them to the same location. At first, they believe it is just a prank. When they realise the destination is the same room they are in, they begin searching for clues. Eventually, they find a hidden camera spying on them. They react by throwing a letter at the camera and covering it with nearby objects.

Final Decision & Group Roles

After brainstorming and presenting all three ideas to Mr. Ridhwan, we decided to proceed with Story Idea 1, as it was more creative, engaging, and visually interesting. We then began writing the project proposal and planning the overall timeline. Each group member was assigned a specific role:

Editing: Sher Wei
Music & Sound Effects: Qian Yue
Narration & Storyboard: Zi Tong
Floor Plan & Scene References: Ying Xuan

Storyboard

I have complete storyboard using procreate, drawing it scene by scene.

SHOOTING PROCESS

After group discussions, we agreed to conduct the filming in Week 10. The story required four characters—two girls and two boys—so we carefully searched for actors with similar body types to maintain visual consistency between the reality and imagination scenes. Fortunately, the shooting process went smoothly and according to plan.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Once filming was completed, all footage was uploaded to Google Drive for easier access and collaboration. Sher Wei then began working on the first cut of the video. In Week 11, we presented our progress to Mr. Ridhwan and received constructive feedback. He suggested adding more visual effects and narration to strengthen storytelling. After discussion, we realized that adding effects only at the ending would feel disconnected, so narration was included to improve clarity and flow of the story.

FIRST CUT

MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS

As our project follows a romantic comedy theme, we selected soft, dreamy background music to highlight the fantasy and imaginative sequences. Qian Yue was responsible for incorporating the narration and sound effects into the video.

In Week 12, we showcased the completed video to Mr. Ridhwan. He suggested reconsidering the chipmunk-style narration sound. However, after discussing as a group, we felt that the sound enhanced the playful and cute tone of the video, so we decided to retain it.

FINAL OUTCOME

FEEDBACK SUMMARY

Week 9

  • Qian Yue’s story concept was engaging and feasible. The suggestion was to minimize dialogue and rely more on music and visual effects.

  • Location planning was important, especially considering technical challenges such as hiding lighting equipment and tripods.

  • Sher Wei’s idea needed a clearer narrative direction to justify the characters’ actions.

  • Ying Xuan’s idea required stronger motivations for character reactions, such as why the characters panic or decide to cover the camera.

Week 11

  • Overall progress was satisfactory, but further refinement was recommended.

  • Some imagination scenes were overexposed and needed adjustment.

  • Narration could be added to clarify the storyline.

  • More medium and close-up shots could help convey emotions.

  • Additional graphic elements could enhance the visual presentation.

Week 12

  • The final video showed significant improvement and appeared complete.

  • Mr. Ridhwan suggested experimenting with the narration voice, but left the decision to the group.

REFLECTION

For this project, we challenged ourselves by creating a dual-world narrative that contrasts reality with imagination, following a rom-com style. One of the biggest challenges was finding two pairs of actors who looked similar enough to represent both versions of the characters. Due to last-minute changes in casting, we had to find replacements quickly, but fortunately, our friends were willing to help.

The filming process itself was efficient and smooth. However, we encountered a minor issue when the 360-degree camera battery nearly ran out during the final scene, which was quite stressful. Thankfully, we managed to complete filming on the same day.

As I was responsible for the storyboard and narration, I focused on organising the storyline clearly and ensuring the flow between reality and imagination was easy to understand. Creating the storyboard required careful planning of scenes, camera angles, and transitions to match the narrative. Developing the narration also helped strengthen the storytelling and guide the audience through the plot. Although it was challenging to balance visuals and narration effectively, the process was enjoyable and rewarding. Through this project, I gained valuable storytelling experience, improved my planning skills, and strengthened my teamwork and friendships with my group members.
