Storyboard

In filmmaking, a storyboard serves as a visual plan for a movie, animation, video game, or any motion-based media — similar to a comic strip. It consists of a sequence of drawings or images arranged in order to preview how the final production will unfold.

Storyboards help map out each shot, clarify the narrative flow, and share creative ideas with the entire production team. They often include information such as camera positions, character actions, dialogue snippets, and notes on effects or sound cues. This gives directors, cinematographers, and crew members a clear vision of the scenes and helps them prepare efficiently for filming.

As a key element of pre-production, storyboarding allows creators to explore different visual ideas, spot potential challenges early, and refine their approach before cameras roll — ultimately saving both time and resources.

TASK 1: SOUND FOR VISUAL (DUBBING)

We were tasked with choosing or recording sound clips to create sound effects that bring a muted video clip to life. The sound clips will be sourced online, and we need to identify which visual elements in the video require sound.

The clip we received is a 36-second scene (with no audio) from the movie Everything, Everywhere All at Once. Mr. Martin instructed us to first create a spreadsheet to plan the sounds — including the types of sound effects, ambient noises, and dialogue needed for each moment in the clip.

Once the plan is ready, we have to research and find suitable sound effects online, then paste the links into the spreadsheet. This way, it will be easier and faster to collect and organize the audio files when we edit the video later in Adobe Premiere Pro.

TASK 2: SOUND SHAPPING

Students will be given a choice of scenarios, and they have to pick one and create the soundscape for the chosen scenario.

- We have to record our own voice speaking in our own language for 10 seconds for Project 1 Exercise 2 sound shaping. We used Adobe Audition Software for this task.
  • Voice of phone call.
  • Voice coming from inside of the closet.
  • Underground cave.
  • Alien/ Orc voice
