FINAL PROJECT: VIDEO SHOOTING & EDITING

Proposal
For our final project, we’ve been paired up with a classmate to work as a team—my partner is Korene. To begin, we selected a tarot card and a random number to help determine the theme of our project. Once the theme was set, we started brainstorming ideas for the storyline we wanted to create based on the chosen tarot card. These early concepts were then developed further and included in our proposal slides.

And here was the Proposal slides.

After presenting our work to Mr. Martin and making some adjustments, Korene and I discussed the shooting schedule. Since our availability didn’t match, we decided that she would handle the filming, while I would take care of the editing.

Shooting
While Korene was shooting the clips, we have discussed about the lighting and camera angle too, and here was the process picture of shooting.

She later sent me the footage files, and together we reviewed and selected the final clips to use.

Editing
First, I edited the storyline and arranged the clips using Adobe Premiere Pro, following the shot list we had written earlier.

Then, I began working on the first visual effect, which was cloning. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to create the effect, following a tutorial video on YouTube.

Next, I edited the eye color changing effect in Adobe After Effects. I experimented with multiple colors as well as a single color, and after discussing with Korene, we decided to go with just one color for a more consistent look.

After that, I worked on the photo visual effects as well. This time, I tried linking directly from Premiere Pro to After Effects, instead of starting in After Effects and then importing the video back into Premiere Pro.

Lastly, I added background music, sound effects, some text, and the voiceover to the video. I then adjusted the timing to ensure the final video stayed within the one-minute limit.

REFLECTIONS

At the start of this project, I was team up with Korene. After drawing a tarot card and random number to decide our theme, we quickly came up with a story idea and included it in our proposal slides. Because our schedules didn’t match well, we decided to split the work—Korene took charge of the shooting, and I focused on the editing.

Once I received the footage from her, we reviewed and chose the best clips together. I began by editing the storyline and arranging the clips using Adobe Premiere Pro, following the shot list we had created. Then, I worked on the first visual effect—cloning—by following a YouTube tutorial. After that, I moved into Adobe After Effects to create the eye color change effect. I tested multiple colors, but after discussing with Ummehani, we agreed to stick with just one color for consistency. I also worked on the photo visual effect, and instead of starting directly in After Effects, I tried linking it from Premiere Pro, which was a new experience for me.

Finally, I added background music, sound effects, some text, and the voiceover. I made sure to adjust everything to keep the final video within one minute.

This project helped me realize which areas I’m still not confident in—especially using After Effects—and that I need more practice and exploration to improve. It also showed me the challenge of working in a team when schedules don’t align. Even though we communicated well, I ended up handling most of the production. Still, I’m proud of pushing through the process, learning new tools, and managing to complete the video under pressure.
