REFLECTION

Experience

This course was very beneficial and empowering; I majorly learned typography design and some aspects of digital art. Having performed conversion of the drawn items into vectors using Adobe Illustrator, as well as observing effects of minor changes using FontLab. Acting out different format of letters and pre-Feedback and Recycle improved my effectiveness to meaningful goals and objectives.

Such assignments as united typefaces and posters used to help me learn how to stay creative while keeping everything organized by typefaces. I thought that the first exercise of turning a word into something that can be interpreted in a different way was invention. The comments from Ms. Vitiyaa alongside my past experiences made me rather fully prepared to face tasks and even polish them with a genuine interest.

Observations

Drawing typefaces emphasized such features as curves, kerning or stems: altering them slightly affected legibility and the proportions of the typeface. It took a process of trial and error and the drawing of several cycles to get the surfaces smooth and functionally shaped. Weekly feedback and peer discussions helped to upgrade feedback and introduce a variety of techniques for correct using of typography to myself.

Bearing in mind that design files were imported into FontLab, features such as ascenders, descenders and cap-heights became technical criteria that affect usability and appearance. This way, it’s possible to emphasize that typography is an interrelated practice between the design and the everyday usage increased my appreciation for typography.

Findings

This has made me learn that typography is a combination of art and work that needs technical work as well as intelligence. The decision about spacing, kerning, and structure is a direct factor in read ability and information transferring. The pinning phase could attract oversights when developed in the digital phase and the pinning phase pointed to the significance of an iterative process.

The feedback was continuous, and it made me improve my work while making me adopt a growth mentality. While it may have been difficult it was something I needed to know in order to move forward technically. Finally, I made designs that are as artistic as possible while also serving its function and getting an important message across while growing my appreciation for typography.
