PROJECT 4 - SELF-TITLED

In this final task, we were to make a 9:16 ratio digital surrealism with moving imagery artwork inspired by self. In this we were to use Photoshop and After Effects. Self-titled is an exploration project to mirror ourselves and reflect our personality into digital art into self-creative playground. The main idea is to accumulate self-confidence and to find the sphere of interest.

Idea Development (Week 10)

 1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

Hello, I am Zi Tong, from Malaysia though I was born there. I am one of those persons who value calm and serenity, and who finds satisfaction in artistically creating something. This is my first semester in my degree program and it has been a combination of the two. Sometimes I think that assignments help time fly by and all that is left is to chase due dates while hoping to be creative.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

When I draw on my own that is what I really enjoy well it’s sort of like you know getting lost in a cartoon. I like to spend time quietly drawing ideas, feelings, and turning it into drawings, as well as honing the ability to convey ideas using drawing.

PARAGRAPH 2

What motivates you to achieve your dream?

The fact that I want to be as unique as I can and my loved ones motivating me to follow my dream do the rest. I believe that I will be able to fascinate people with art that opens the door to the word of imagination. Thus, I am planning to invest efforts present in order to create a creative work which will symbolize me as a unique person.

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

Using a surreal art-nouveau collage of varying surfaces and imagery associated with ageing and change. From the references, I elaborate layers of such elements as surreal space, elements of the cosmos, and slim sections of human gesture. Every one of these will combine shattered notions and dreams of mine and appear ageless and great.

 2. write a statement about your work.

INTRO

Instead, I’d like to design a poster into a style of the period eauto with focus on the surrealist attitude which interests me. The thoughts I will input into this creation will be an amalgamation of the thoughts, as well as current personal experiences on the artwork while incorporating figurative realities.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

The idea here is to present the audience with a view into my creativity and to demonstrate that nothing is farther from my mind than a lack of fantasy. That is where I portray more of the quirkiness, the imagination and the things that come with being the person that I am. Using bizarre images, I would like to share with spectators the lots of weird ideas and thoughts which I have.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand?

I was mean to call for appreciation of individuality and creativity among the society. That we should be proud because sometimes we do have our heads filled with nonsense and strange ideas that set us apart from everyone else.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/quote?

Dream until it’s your reality.

FINAL POSTER

TITLE:  Fragments of a Surreal Mind

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This is my talk about the liberty of a person and about my idea of the individuality and fantasy depicted in this poster. It being inspired from the surrealist movement is that it encompasses the strange and unrealistic so as to attract people into the phase of imagination of my mind. The artwork portrays and honors idiosyncrasies, varied and contrary conceptions, and clear visions of me.

I believe that with this piece, people will begin to embrace their weird and learn to embrace their creativity in a society that tends to put high standards. This promotes the acceptance of one’s inner play, inner madness and inner secrecy, which should ideally make us special.

The work is under the motto ‘‘Dream until it is your reality,’ that is, imagination and transformation of the dream into a reality.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
I really like the final project because it allowed me to develop personal message and make something that reflects myself. I also got acquainted with new approaches for instance animating objects through After Effects to make them appear real. Just getting to use basic utilities like keyframes, the puppet tool and tracking was fascinating and informative. Also, the DPI project let me use all the Photoshop skills I was learning since the first week of the class. I really liked this project, and it was nice to have such a challenging piece as the final for the class; it felt much more motivating to be creative in the construction of the surrealistic piece and when animating as well.

Observations and Findings
One notable observation that was made was composition. I remember when our teacher was telling us that there should be a focus, something that will draw attention, and other objects around it should be related to this focus. I think including animations to what started off as basically just a picture definitely made it much alive and interesting. This is my first time dealing with surrealism and I first found it a tad tedious but as I went on, I got to really enjoy it.
